In an accident that seemed to be out of a movie, two children have been left seriously injured and hospitalized, NBC News reported. According to the authorities, the two boys were playing in an inflatable bounce house that somehow flew into the air, reaching upwards of 20 feet, and then drifted away. One of the boys playing inside the bounce house, age 5, hit his head on a parked car when he landed in a parking lot and the other boy, age 6, landed on the street. The boy who landed on the street suffered a serious head injury and was placed into a medically induced coma, according to South Glens Police Chief Kevin Judd. The other boy had two broken arms, a broken jaw, an eye socket fracture, and a possible ruptured spleen, the report stated. Both boys are currently listed in stable condition, police confirmed. A 10-year-old girl was also playing in the bounce house, but her family said she only suffered scrapes and a minor shoulder injury.
Witnesses describe seeing the two boys critically injured some 75 feet apart. Andre Delvaux, chief of operations for the Moreau Emergency squad told NBC that this was a freak, unfortunate accident that is not typical of bounce house injuries. Police said the toy had been secured with 6-inch plastic spikes and, according to meteorologists, winds were only about 5 to 10 mph, so they, too, were surprised by the incident. As the investigation continues, the company and the community are hoping for a full recovery for the two little boys.
