NEW YORK, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- New York Personal Injury Lawyer Adnan Munawar, of Munawar & Andrews-Santillo, LLP discusses the bobsled accident at the Sochi Olympics that left a worker with multiple injuries.
A man working on the track used for sliding sports suffered two broken legs and a concussion when a test sled that had been sent to make sure the track was ready for riders crashed into him, ABC News reported (Sochi Worker Struck by Bobsled Suffers Multiple Injuries, February 13, 2014). There were two other workers on the track who managed to get out of the way, but the injure d worker, whose name was not released, had to be airlifted to a hospital and undergo surgery on both of his legs, according to officials. Olympic officials are still investigating the exact cause of the accident and why there were workers on the track when the sled had been sent down.
Sochi organizers claim that a warning signal was given before the sled was sent down the track and they are trying to determine why the workers did not appear to hear the signal. One theory is that the worker was using a motorized air blower, which could have drowned out the signal; another is that the warning systems may not have been functioning properly at the section of the track where the workers were. The loudspeaker system, which is critical to the safe operation of the track, had malfunctioned previously, but appeared to be working just after the accident occurred. Investigations will be ongoing as the Sochi Olympic Games continue.
"While the injuries suffered by the Sochi worker we re serious and should not have happened at all, it is most fortunate that this accident did not result in worse," said Adnan Munawar, New York Personal Injury Lawyer and Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "It is always disheartening when a worker suffers an injury on the job, especially one as critical as two broken legs, and we hope that the he recovers fully."
"Accidents like these serve as an important reminder why employers are required to take certain safety precautions to protect their workers and how dangerous some work environments can be. If this accident were to have occurred in New York State, the injured worker would have been entitled to financial compensation under New York Workers' Compensation Law to cover his medical bills and lost wages. In fact, anyone who suffers an injury on the job has a right to file a claim for compensation, and they would be wise to do so with the assistance of an experienced attorney. The claims process is complicated, and if a claim is contested, you definitely want a knowledgeable expert backing you up. Consulting with an attorney to help you with your workers' compensation claim is free, and you only ever pay a fee if you win, so there is no reason not to call an attorney and find out what steps to take next."
"If your or a loved one has suffered an injury or worse caused by the performance of a job, contact a Workers' Compensation lawyer to receive information about the workers' compensation claim process and get your claims started right away."
